Abstract
Czech always perceived their german neighbours as a country, that unforgettably changed their history, which affected czech-german relations for many decades. Czech Republic’s identity was suppressed for centuries, especially in the 19th century.World War II only strengthened the czech view that the Germans were a agressive nation. Our relation with Germany became a subject of controversy again after the fall of the Iron curtain and when it was unified.. Later in 1997 the Czech-German declaration about future development and mutual relations was signed, which made many politicians hope for the end of long debates and disputes.
Germany is currently one of our most important business partners. They participace in many investments in the Czech republic. One of the most recent investments was the direct investment of Volkswagen into Skoda Auto. Germans invest not only in the engineering industry but also in the publishing and press companies. Most of czech journals are now part of a large german publisher. Many experts already have tried to draw attention to the posibility of huge influence of the owner on the media.
Print media in both countries regulary brings news from politics, economics and culture. Information are mostly written in neutral and positive way, rarely negativally. This fact shows that all the prejudices caused by past conflicts in history are gone.
