Abstract

The subject of this thesis is analysis of public debt in the European Union countries. Target of the thesis is to review the rate of public debt in selected countries of the European Union on the one hand and review whether there is existing any specific relationship between the rate of public debt of state and its gross domestic product on the other hand. The second chapter of this thesis provides theoretical base in area of budget deficit and public debt. Third chapter is focused on the problematic of public debt in the European Union countries. In this chapter is outlined development of public debt in the European Union countries, in the European Union taken as complex and also analyzes the problematic of public debt in Czech Republic in detail. This thesis also contains a part which is dedicated to selected measures of the European Union for sustainability of public finances. The fourth chapter is focused on analysis of public debt in selected countries of the European Union. For analysis were chosen countries whose public debt achieves an excessive rate in relative expression, namely Greece, Portugal, Italy and Ireland. Final part of this chapter is dedicated to relationship of public debt and gross domestic product.
