Kulturní a společenské centrum Nový Smíchov

Abstract

The thesis presents the author’s vision for Nový Smíchov. It consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the area concerned is first defined and the information important for the design of the new urban structure is summarised. These are presented mainly in graphic form in combination with a brief commentary. The analytical part concludes the SWOT analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the site, listing the main potentials and potential threats that the site faces. The chapter Typology compares the scale of existing urban structures and executed projects with the scale of the site concerned. It also sets out the selection of typological principles, normative and legislative requirements for the design of a cultural centre. The urban design aims to turn the barrier of the former railway station into a fully-fledged multifunctional city district. It includes an accompanying report, graphically presented concepts and design of solutions on a scale of a reasonable scope of the territory. This part concludes the definition and design of the public space in the vicinity of the proposed building. The emphasis is on the pedestrian boulevard, the square and the park, their interconnection and connection to the building. The theoretical part defines the context in which the construction of the Cultural and Social Centre - New Smichov is proposed. The architectural study of this building is the content of a practical part of the thesis. In this section, the mass, layout and operational solution of the building are proposed, including its connection with the public space. Several functions are concentrated in the cultural and social centre, especially the theatre, gallery and library. These are complemented by multifunctional halls, a theatre bar and a restaurant. The stage of the theatre is oriented on two sides – the internal auditorium and the adjacent square. Other demonstration areas are located on all above-ground floors of the building, including the roof terrace.
