Abstract

SKÁCEL, Michal. The issue of Hate Crime in the Czech Republic and abroad: Diploma thesis, Ostrava 2026. VŠB – Technical University Ostrava, Faculty of Safety Engineering. This diploma thesis deals with the issue of Hate Crimes in the Czech Republic and abroad. The aim of the thesis is to specify the forms of Hate Crimes in a selected population group in the Czech Republic, analyze their social and personal consequences, and identify prevention options. The theoretical part defines the concept of Hate Crime, their historical development, legal framework, manifestations and approaches to solving this type of crime. The theoretical part also includes an overview of the situation in the Czech Republic, focusing on a selected population group. The practical part of the thesis is based on a quantitative questionnaire survey conducted among gays and lesbians in Czechia, and is supplemented by a case study. Based on the collected data, the thesis evaluates the most common forms of bias motivated behavior, their impacts on victims, and approaches to prevention. The conclusion summarizes the findings, presents proposals for measures and recommendations to reduce this phenomenon.
