Abstract
The main aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of Y in coal, bottom ash and three fly ash samples collected at three sections of particulate control device. The particular attention has been paid to the distribution of Y within the particle-size fractions before and after leaching the samples in dilute HCl. Concentrations of Y in the lignite was 4.4 ppm, in bottom ash 31.3 ppm and in the fly ash from the three sections it was 34.1, 46.3 and 53.5 ppm – i.e., the Y content increases gradu-ally from the coal via the bottom ash to the fly ash (the last section contains the highest levels of Y). In the studied samples, Y exhibited the dominant association with titanium oxides and probably also with phosphates.
