Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis deals with the design of a performance evaluation system for triathletes using the principle of multi-criteria decision-making. The aim of the thesis is to develop a methodologically consistent and fair approach to comparing athletes throughout the entire season. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part defines the foundations of multi-criteria decision-making, the issues surrounding performance evaluation in sports, and working with incomplete data. The practical part includes an analysis of current ranking systems in triathlon and a proposal for a custom model. The proposed system combines performance normalization, the determination of discipline weights using regression analysis, and the evaluation of race quality based on a modified approach inspired by the PageRank algorithm. The system is subsequently applied to real-world data from the Czech Long-Distance Triathlon Championship, and its properties are verified through sensitivity analysis and comparison with the existing ranking. The results show that the proposed approach enables a more accurate evaluation of athletes’ performance.
