Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to create a tool for the analysis of J1939 CAN communication that provides the user with insight into the structure of messages and signals in cases where documentation or a DBC file is not available to define the vehicle's communication. This tool is designed for situations where where time access to the vehicle is limited. The tool allows for both recording CAN J1939 communications in real time and reading trace files containing recorded communications. For the implementation, a combination of Arduino UNO hardware and MCP2515 controller, together with a MATLAB and Simulink software environment. Key functions of the tool include recording trace files, retrieving them, processing, generating DBC files, creating documentation, and visualizing physical values as graphs. The tool also allows for reading reports directly from the vehicle in real time. The functionality of the tool has been verified using Vector software CANoe by Vector Informatik.
