Abstract

Sludge from wastewater treatment plant is a mixture of substances which generated during the sewage treatment process. It is a waste that is usable for agricultural land fertilization and mixing into compost. For this reason, it is important to monitor its composition, especially the content of heavy metals and other toxic substances. It is essential to continually reduce the content of hazardous substances and thereby reduce the negative impact on the environment. The diploma thesis deals with toxic metals, namely arsenic, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, mercury and zinc, in the sludge from the wastewater treatment plant of a chemical plant in the Central Bohemia Region. The aim of the thesis is to use the microorganisms Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas putida to reduce their concentration. It has been shown that these microorganisms have an impact on the reduction of toxic metal content in sludge from chemical wastewater treatment plants of a chemical industry.
