Abstract
The following diploma thesis deals with the issue of mechanical tunelling realized with EPB shields, particularly with the respect to the urban suburbs’ surface settlement. Among others, the main EPB shield method benefits are not only increased work safety but also quicker face proceeding and moreover the decrease in both economical demands and workload. The usage of EPB shields aims to equalize the potential pressures by means of beneficiated soil. This soil is placed in excavation chamber and protects the face from groundwater and other environmental impacts. The primary objective of this thesis is to produce parametric study steming from the results of mathematical modules based on geological studies (e.g.: face speed and both the amount of heap sand and the number of overpressure in an excavation chamber). All the factors mentioned influence the surface settlement as a whole. The parametric study in this thesis serves us as a means of comparison and verification of the data gathered while Metro V.A project in Prague was implemented.
