Abstract

This graduation thesis deals with the varieties negative effects, which rise from operations of Electrical Arc Furnace and their elimination by Static var compensation equipment (SVC). SVC gains capacitive reactive power from the capacitor banks (filters), which are connected to supply network. Leading reactive power is continuously controlled by means of antiparallel thyristor valve, which regulates current of decompesation reactor, connected in parallel to capacitor banks. The project of Static var compensation is solved for steel-making Electric Arc Furnace, with furnace transformer 42 MVA, connected to supply network 22 kV. This design of SVC in full range, overreaches the framework of this graduation thesis. Therefore only some parts were elaborated in detail, for example the calculation of reactive power, calculation of frequency response of filters, harmonic voltages and voltage fluctuation (flicker severity).
