Abstract

A supercapacitor is in principle an electrolytic condenser produced to gain high capacity of thousands Farads and to keep parameters of a condenser in the same time. This technology is based on so-called electrochemical double-layer and therefore these supercapacitors are called EDLC. The supercapacitor limitation is a value of operation voltage cca 2.5 V, but it is applicable for storage and fast supply of electric energy. For higher operation voltages there is necessary to stack supercapacitors in series but it demands usage of protective balancing circuits. Balancing circuits are active or passive. This thesis deals theoretically with both types of these circuits and it describes also balancing circuit effect to supercapacitors operating life. The core is description and clarification of operation and implementation of active compensation. Results of the proper active compensation are proved by measurements and circuit testing.
