Abstract

This diploma work solves the problem of the defects of the rails, which are a serious problem. They reduce their viability, decrease the safety of rails and increase the financial cost of their maintenance and reparation. The production of rails is an extensive process, that consists of many different stages, while the production of any of these phases may occur a defect. Metallographic analysis is one of the most reliable methods in the determining of the origin of defects. Although, in some cases the final conclusion is only likely to provide.
