Abstract
The presented diploma thesis deals with the analysis of soil behaviour in the vicinity of the pile base under axial loading. The thesis summarises the fundamental principles of deep foundations, the technological methods of pile installation, and the mechanical aspects of pile–soil interaction. The following part is devoted to a theoretical description of soil failure mechanisms in terms of limit plastic equilibrium and bearing capacity of foundation soils beneath shallow foundations, which form the conceptual framework for interpreting failure at the pile base. The main part of the thesis focuses on a review and comparison of selected analytical and empirical methods for determining the ultimate stress at the pile base, including methods based on different assumptions regarding the shape of the failure surface, local shear, controlled deformation, soil compressibility, and triaxial stress states.
The selected methods are subsequently applied to practical engineering cases under varying geological conditions at sites across the Czech Republic. The results of the individual approaches are mutually compared in terms of the ultimate stress values obtained at the pile base and their practical applicability. The thesis also includes a discussion of the influence of input geotechnical parameters, pile installation technology, and the choice of calculation model on the predicted bearing capacity. The aim of the thesis is to highlight the differences between the individual methods, evaluate their suitability for various geotechnical conditions, and formulate recommendations for their application in engineering design practice.
