SZŰCS, A.: Procedures for preventive control of the tailing dams. Thesis. Ostrava: VŠB – TU, 2015, 75 p. This dissertation is focused on the evaluation of current sludge lagoons dams’ inspection methods in Czech Republic. In the introduction of this work, there are described the basic legislation on the matter. As a starting point, some findings concerning to the sludge lagoon dam bursts of Magyar Alumíniumtermelő és Kereskedelmi Zrt in the Hungarian town of Ajka on 4. 10. 2010 are presented. The study also examines the distribution of sludge lagoons according to the applicable standards, describes the basic methods of dams inspections and most frequently used methods of measurement as well. The practical part describes the experimental measurements by aerial thermal imaging on the sludge lagoon in Dolní Rožínka. This site was selected for measurement because of its similarity to the busted dam of lagoon in the Hungarian Ajka. In the final part of this work, there are described and evaluated lessons learned and procedures proposed for establishing operational inspections that can, in the case of dam crash, minimize losses of life, property and environment.
