Abstract
This bachelor’s thesis focuses on comparing the effects of biodegradable and standard airsoft ammunition on the performance parameters of airsoft guns. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical section discusses airsoft as a sport. It also describes the basic protective equipment used in the game, the types of airsoft guns, and their classification according to the propulsion mechanism. Attention is also given to airsoft ammunition and its fragmentation.
The practical part includes a description of the tested ammunition, the design and execution of experiments concerning the kinetic energy of projectiles, shooting accuracy characterized by grouping, and the fragmentation of both types of ammunition on three types of surfaces under two angles of impact. The selected test surfaces for fragmentation were a concrete block and an OSB board, which are materials commonly used to construct cover obstacles on airsoft fields. A textile material from a protective vest was chosen as an additional surface. The comparison of the two types of ammunition evaluates their kinetic energy, shot grouping, and places particular emphasis on fragmentation capability. The formation of small fragments represents a risk of injury to players due to their ability to pene-trate wire protective equipment, such as face cages, protective face masks, and other gear.
