Abstract

In some cases there is a need to record details of a fact, store the data, or process them. With the increasing number of data records there is a need to have the register well-organized so that it is easy to seek information, complete the data etc. An appropriate device for this purpose is the information system. The aim of this thesis was to develop an appropriate distributed information system for the Children's Diagnostic Institute and its affiliated Children's Homes, which communicate with each other using the Internet. The whole system records and stores data on the children placed in their facilities. The Distributed Information System was created by the process RUP (Rational Unified Process), which provides a high quality product within the budget and schedule. The life cycle of development included the following stages: requirements collection and specification, analysis and system design, implementation, and testing. The Distributed Information System has been designed and implemented as a web application of the database management system MySQL. The security of the data transfer is ensured by the protocol SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), using asymmetric encryption by the RSA algorithm, as well as the concurrent verification of identity by means of standard X.509 identity certificates.
