Abstract

This master's thesis deals with the experimental verification of detecting hydrogen fluoride concentrations in combustion products using Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS). The theoretical part of the thesis describes the toxicity and health risks associated with hydrogen fluoride exposure, the mechanisms of its formation during the thermal decomposition of fluorinated materials, and the physical principles of TDLAS. The practical part documents the design and construction of a unique measuring apparatus utilizing a cup burner and a multipass optical cell with a ring geometry to achieve higher measurement sensitivity. The thesis includes a methodology for calibrating the system using a reference gas, followed by the experimental detection of hydrogen fluoride generated during the decomposition of difluoromethane in a methane flame. The measurement results confirm the high selectivity and stability of the TDLAS method, even under conditions of elevated humidity, and demonstrate its potential for the in-situ monitoring of toxic combustion products.
