Abstract
FUKA, S. Reduction of Surface Defects Occurrence for Slabs at Sequence Start Regarding
Final Product Quality. Ostrava 2011. Diploma thesis. Vysoká škola báňská – Technická
univerzita Ostrava. Faculty of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Department of
Metallurgy. Thesis Supervisor: Prof. Ing. Jiří Baţan, CSc.
The object of the thesis, entitled „Reduction of Surface Defects Occurrence for Slabs at
Sequence Start Regarding Final Product Quality“ was to determine the effect of different
types of casting powders on the final quality of the first slab in the sequence. Four different
types of mould powders were compared in order to make the right choice of casting powder
for opening of the continuous casting sequence. The recommendations to reduce first slab
surface defects occurrence are introduced based on the results obtained.
