Abstract
This dissertation thesis deals with the laboratory verification of how addition of natural zeolite as a natural puzzolano influences given properties, especially strength (strength in simple compression and flexural strength) and durability (resistance against high temperatures, freezing, water activity and effects of chemical antifreeze substances) characteristics in certain materials - geopolymers, mortars and concretes. As the way of application of the natural zeolite in the given materials we have selected partial substitution of binding material by the natural zeolite in individual studied materials. In the case of geopolymers this is substitution of blast furnace granulated slag by natural zeolite in the amounts of 10, 15 and 20 % of the total slag amount. In the case of mortars (we have selected cement-lime mortar) it is substitution of lime hydrate and Portland cement by natural zeolite in the amounts of 10, 15 and 20 of the total binder, specifically lime hydrate and Portland cement. In the case of concretes it is substitution of binder - Portland cement in the amounts of 3, 5 and 10 % of the total binder - Portland cement - amount. Within this experiment we have performed verification and monitoring of effects and behavior of natural zeolite additions on given material characteristics. The resulting values of physical - mathematical and durability properties were consequently subjected to comparison to reference mixtures of individual studied materials that did not have their binder substituted by alternative binders based on natural zeolite. After this we have performed analyses of effects of natural zeolite additions in the given amounts to researched properties of modified materials. In conclusion we discuss the results including recommendations for further research and possible study directions in this area of natural zeolite use.
