Abstract

This master’s thesis deals with the occurrence of coal tontein (tuff) of the Seam No. 560 in the Saddle Member of the Karviná Formation. In the past this horizon was described from 21 localities, 25 new occurrences are mentioned in this work. Tonstein is formed mostly by kaolinite, with chlorite, quartz, sanidine, and anatase. Interesting is its mineralization on a microscopic scale – aside from the phases mentioned in earlier descriptions, it is described by a presence of baryte, galena, chalcopyrite, anglesite, jarosite, celestine, and REE±Al phosphate. As it is the single tonstein in the whole Saddle Member, it is important for local identification and correlation.
