Abstract
MS Windows systems Vista and later provide modular architecture for implementation of different authentication methods. The architecture is based on Credential Providers - modules for interaction with user in authentication process and obtaining his credentials. Compared to previous GINA method the Credential Providers are officially supported interface for expanded functionality of OS. Standard installation of Windows provides only a limited list of authentication methods (manualy entered login/password, Smart card with X.509 certificate and PIN and basic support for biometric technology). The aim of this thesis is creation of authentication modules, which allow the use of smart cards with password and login and general storage of X.509 certificate, that is not tied to a smart card.
