Abstract
Cohesion policy is one of the European union core policies and one of the main instruments of the regional development support and cohesion among the regions. Cohesion policy more or less fights the structural problems throughout Europe. One of the countries affected by the regional disparities is also Belgium.
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to give the complete image of the implementation of the European union Cohesion Policy in Belgium by comparison of the transformation of the cohesion policy during the programming periods 2007–2013 and 2014–2020.
The bachelor thesis is divided in three main chapters. The first thematic chapter is focused on the theoretical concept of the cohesion policy at the European union level. There are defined the basic terms regarding the regional development, the cohesion concept is explained and milestones of the cohesion policy development are described.
The second chapter concentrates on the socioeconomic analysis of Belgium and its cohesion policy concept.
The third chapter practically evaluates the implementation of the European union Cohesion Policy in Belgium during the programing periods 2007–2013 and 2014–2020. The analysis of the periods is based on their objectives, investment priorities, allocation of the financial resources, operational programmes and primarily on the assessment of the cohesion policy achievements during those programming periods. The bachelor thesis is concluded with the comparison of the cohesion policy structure and its results in Belgium during those two programming periods and ended by its expected future development.
