Abstract

The diploma thesis is focused on elimination of thermal treatment of industrial wastes. Alternative methods are analyzed with the focus on treatment of wastes from manufacture of acrylic acid and its esters in Momentive Specialty Chemicals, a.s. In the theoretical part, alternative methods of industrial waste pre-treatment and final disposal are described. History and current trends and legislation are discussed. The experimental part of the thesis deals with the treatment of wastewater from acrylic acid and n-butyl acrylate plants. A method for process wastewater treatment by using stripping was proposed and tested in the laboratory. Furthermore, neutralization of process wastewater with subsequent biological treatment of organic compounds in the municipal wastewater treatment plant was proposed and tested in the pilot scale. In the end, a concept of future treatment of wastes from acrylic monomers production in Momentive Specialty Chemicals, a.s. was outlined.
