Abstract
CHUPÁČ, P. Possibilities of using extremely absorbent materials in construction. Ostrava, 2021, Diploma thesis. VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, Department of Building Materials and Diagnostics of Structures. Thesis supervisor: Ing. Jana Boháčová, Ph.D.
The aim of this thesis is a research of the possibility of utilization of highly absorbent materials in construction, focusing on affecting fresh mixtures and the overall functionality of cement-based and blast-furnace slag, test specimens after adding these additives, together with their potential use in construction practice, where there should be releasing water bound in the gel structure, acting in the materials as a kind of water reservoir and should contribute to the change of properties.
In a theoretical part of this thesis there are described important terms associated with this topic. There are explained and described polymers, hydrogels and processes of absorption / adsorption, which are closely related to highly absorbent materials. A short review is devoted to the matters of water retention. The conclusion of the theoretical part deals with characteristics of the raw materials used in the experiment.
The experimental part describes the creation of test specimens, as well as a possible production of norm units containing SAP in various forms, with subsequent verification of their mechanical-physical features. These highly absorbent materials are subjected to a set of non-standard tests to verify their basic properties.
The main benefit of this work is the possibility of implementing the obtained results in construction engineering practice.
