Abstract

This doctoral thesis paper takes into account transformation of regional airports in Central Europe and compares their performances. The comparison relates the airport performances to some regional parameters utilizing methods of regressive and correlation analyses. The thesis paper has further concentrated on the development expectances of the Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport by providing for future development scenarios, modelling economic performance, and conducting a detailed SWOT analysis that employs multi-criteria assessment of variants. The thesis work investigations have evidenced a strong mutual dependence of the airport and regional economic ratios, and the ability of the Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport to operate profitably if critical numbers of passengers check-in. It might be to the advantage of the Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport if the SWOT analysis recommendations were put into the airport’s practice eliminating weaknesses and utilising strengths.
