Abstract
This Diploma paper is aiming to observance of the goals of the European Union stated in the Lisbon Strategy, first of all the main goal – to become the most competitive region of the world by the year 2010. That goal wasn´t indeed fulfilled. In thesis I concetrated on the reasons why the European union won´t be the most competitive economy of the world.
Thesis is divided into three chapters. In the first part is characterised the term competitiveness and factors, that influence it. Between them belongs for example location of the world population, energetics or transport.
In the second part is analysed the main document of this thesis, the Lisbon strategy. There are characterised reasons of its creation, structure in the form of the pillars, continuous fulfilling of goals over the years and also studies measuring competitiveness of the national economics.
In the last part I´m dealing with now ongoing strategy Europe 2020, which is continuing the Lisbon strategy and with The Global Competitiveness Report, which is the most widely used source of measurement in the competitiveness of the world economics.
