Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with examinating and optimizing casting gating system thin boiler section made of grey cast iron EN-GJL-200 produced by gravity casting process. The boiler section casting in which the manufacturing process was problematic (occurrence of misrun) has been chosen. By numerical simulation the existing technology has been analysed and based on this the possible reasons for defects found. For this purpose numerical software QuikCAST™ 2010 was used. Based on analyzation of foundry technology and numerical simulation several gating system were designed. Following to this several options for a new technology were proposed and again by numerical simulation checked their suitability. By comparing all above mentioned options one vision have been chosen in the end which was later tested in production with satisfactory results.
