Abstract
This bachelor thesis addresses the issue of burnout syndrome, which is currently considered a significant phenomenon related to both the work environment and modern lifestyle. The aim of the thesis is to define the theoretical aspects of burnout syndrome based on specialized literature, identify its primary causes, and describe its impact on the mental and physical health of individuals as well as organizational functioning. The thesis was elaborated using the method of literature review and analysis of relevant Czech and foreign professional sources.
Within the theoretical background, the work maps the historical development of the concept since the 1970s and focuses on the distinction between acute and chronic stress. The findings highlight the multifactorial origin of burnout, where both internal factors (personality traits, perfectionism) and external factors (working conditions, organizational culture) play a crucial role. A significant portion of the thesis is dedicated to the challenges of work-life balance and modern trends, such as the influence of social media and the Generation Z approach to employment. In conclusion, the consequences of the syndrome are summarized, manifesting not only as individual exhaustion and health issues but also as economic losses for companies due to reduced productivity and employee turnover.
