Abstract
This bachelor thesis focuses on the methods of measuring and characterizing clay minerals, specifically kaolinite, illite, and montmorillonite. The aim is to compare various analytical techniques in terms of their principles, informational output, operational complexity, time efficiency, and suitability for different applications in geology, raw material exploration, and industrial processing. The thesis provides a detailed description of methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis (TG and DTA), dilatometry, and particle size analysis. These techniques are compared and evaluated in terms of their practical applicability in identifying and assessing the properties of clay minerals. The outcome is a proposal for an optimal combination of analytical methods that enables comprehensive and efficient characterization of clay materials. This work contributes to a better understanding of the behavior of clay minerals and their proper classification and application in industrial practice.
