Abstract

The photoactive kaolinite/ZnO nanocomposites were prepared by a reaction between the aqueous solutions of the reactants of zinc oxide (zinc chloride and sodium hydroxide solutions) and kaoline. Using a simple hydrothermal procedure the composites containing 10 wt. %, 30 wt. % and 50 wt. % of ZnO were prepared. The prepared samples were investigated using X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and photoluminescence spectroscopies. Photodegradation activity of the composites prepared was evaluated by the discoloration of AcidOrange 7 aqueous solution. Antibacterial activity of the kaolinite/ZnO was tested on enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli.
