Abstract

The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the integration of Slovakia into the structures of the Economic and Monetary Union by using real and nominal convergence indices. The first chapter, bearing the name of Slovakia joining the European Union, focuses, as its name implies, on clarifying fundamental issues related with the country joining the EU structure. An insight is given into general characteristics, conducting of the negotiations and the representation of Slovakia in particular institutions. The second chapter deals with the problematics of adopting the euro in Slovakia. National strategy for the euro adoption is examined therein. It is focused on meeting the convergence criteria which are crucial for a country to be accepted into the Eurozone. The third chapter, "Result evaluation of Slovakia being a member of the Eurozone", addresses in more detail selected indices of real and nominal convergence. The main objective is to evaluate the data needed to either support or disprove the above mentioned hypothesis.
