Energy Harvesting and Power Management Unit for a Pressure Detection and Nerve Stimulation Device

Abstract

The aim of this master’s thesis was to design and implement wireless battery charging with data modulation used to power the electronics placed in a smart tooth concept to simplify its use and ability to safely charge a battery. This thesis was done as a part of Erasmus student exchange program during the internship in Porto. This thesis includes theoretical basis and information about wireless charging, data modulation, demodulation and battery management. Design of the schematic and procedures of realizing the circuit, for wireless battery charging, including simulations, were made based on the information obtained in the previous parts. Device consists of the transmitting part with oscillator, modulator and voltage boosting network. The receiving part is made of a coil with a series resonating capacitor, demodulator, multi-stage rectifier, a battery management module, and the battery itself. Finally, a number of tests were successfully made to verify the functionality of this wireless charging and data transmitting device.
