Abstract
This diploma thesis deals with analyzing of optical fibers behaviour with the help of DSTS (Distributed Strain and Temperature Sensing) system, which uses stimulated Brillouin scattering for its operation. The theoretical part of this thesis is in three introductory chapters, where are briefly described light scattering, optical fibers and light scattering application in optical fibers. Fourth chapter is already practical part where the main objective was measure Brillouin frequency for different kinds of optical fibers in dependence on temperature. There were five kinds of telecommunication fibers measured with three different ways of measurement overall. In first way of measuring the optical fiber was not attached. In two other ways of measuring was the optical fiber attached with two different fixing materials (glues) to metal plate. The results of measuring are displayed in tables and figures. There were also calculated a temperature coefficients for all single fibers and ways of measurement. The results are evaluated in the end of this thesis.
