Abstract
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to determine the content of sulfur in metallurgical slags using elemental combustion analysis and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part dealt with slags and their dividing, as well as the origin, chemical composition, sulfur content in slags and use of slags. In the practical part, the analytic methods and analyzers used to determine the chemical composition of metallurgical slags were described. Next, it is discussed what method is more accurate for determining the sulfur content in slags. By measuring the standards, elemental combustion analysis was shown to be more suitable method. By measuring the real samples by both methods, the sulfur contents in individual types of slag are determined and the repeatability of the measurement is verified.
