Abstract

The submitted PhD thesis provides an overview of technologies for anaerobic digestion of different biowastes at highly reactive dry matter. It is about semi-solids methods to 15 wt% of dry matter and high-solids methods to 30 wt% of dry matter. Technologies for biowastes from agriculture, from the food industry and the municipal sphere are discussed. After defining the critical values of the necessary parameters for effective leadership of process, the practical yields of biogas/methane at low and high dry matter for several agricultural and other biowastes available in the Moravian-Silesian Region were verified. The physical model of horizontal fermenter utilizing the reaction vessel as a gas-tight plastic bag about total volume of 0.5 to 0.7 m3 with total reaction volume of 0.3 to 0.5 m3 was designed and constructed. The fermenter was equipped with a hot-air heater to ensure yearlong operation of this technology. The ability of this new type of device for anaerobic digestion of highly reactive dry matter was verified by the series of laboratory tests, and progressively the technology was improved. The requirements for leadership of process in discontinuous or semicontinuous mode were specified and the pilot unit was designed. An anaerobic digestion in a gas-tight bag due to low investment costs represents the promising method for processing agricultural and other biowastes in a small-scale (in order tens of tons)
