Abstract

This thesis deals with the preservation and protection of museum collections from the perspective of possible contamination with environmental pollutants and subsequent damage to the health of people who are moving in this environment. The work is focused on the protection of wood and zoological preparations due to the very large area of objects which are treated. The first two chapters of the search character, which are focused on the structure and properties of wood and its preventive protection and preservatives that have been used both in the past and in the present, and the zoological preparations and their preventive protection. The third part focuses on the characterization of substances that may negatively affect the area of the environment and human health, including an overview of the legislation and the classification of the substance in the legislation of the Czech Republic, the European Union, as well as international agreements. This section is completed screening analysis of dust in buildings depositories of the Silesian Museum in Opava, with the aim provide a first look at the status of the environment in terms of possible contamination.
