Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine whether it is possible to use infrared spectroscopy in conjunction with multi-component statistical methods to identify minerals. The analyzed samples were the samples of clay minerals. For the measurement were used 54 samples, that were collected from different sampling locations around the world. The analyzed clay minerals were determined by infrared spectroscopy with usage of diffuse reflection technique. Results were further elaborated in the assistance program TQ Analyst by the help of multivariate statistical methods, using discriminant analysis and principal component analysis. Using multivariate statistical methods have been developed application models for the clay minerals. These application models were further optimized and evaluated. From the collected data, we tried to determine whether it is possible to identify minerals using the discriminant analysis of infrared spectra of minerals.
