Abstract

The study evaluates concentrations of Y and other target elements in coal combustion ashes collected at fluidised-bed thermal power station – in bottom ash (BA), cyclone ash (CA) and fly ash (FA). Particular attention was paid to distribution of the elements in particle-size fractions prepared from BA, CA and FA and evaluation of possible associations of Y in these samples. Comparison of Y concentrations in BA, CA and FA revealed slight increase in the order: BA (33 ppm), CA (34 ppm) and FA (38 ppm). As far as distribution of Y within particle-size fractions is concerned, no significant trend was observed. The possible associations of Y in the studied ashes relate to its potential occurrence in Zr-bearing minerals (zircon or zirconolite), Ti-bearing minerals (anatase, brannerite, samarskite, euxenite or perovskite) and phosphates (apatite, monazite, xenotime etc.).
