Abstract
The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the energy policy in the EU in its effort to diversify resources and, in more narrow concept, to define possibilities of reducing the energy dependence on the Russian Federation. The thesis is divided into three thematic chapters. The first chapter deals with the substance of legislative protection of the energy policy in primary and secondary law of the European Union. External energy relations between the EU countries and the main suppliers of energy raw materials and the areas of main energy corridors are also desribed in this chapter. The second chapter, called EU-Russia Energy Cooperation, concerns the characteristics of the Russian economy and its foreign trade, including the energy policy of the Russian Federation. This chapter also presents the EU-Russia energy relations and the dependence analysis of the chosen EU countries. The third chapter focuses on the appraisal of alternatives in ensuring gas supply. It presents possibilities of diversification of energy resources, gas consumption prediction and last but not least some important European energy policy scenarios.
