Abstract
The doctoral thesis presents experimental results of research, which is focused on rigid polyurethane foam after the end of its life cycle in concrete mixtures.
The goal is to find a suitable way to use shredded polyurethane foam with a grain size 4/8 mm density about 30 - 35 kg∙m-3 and subsequently utilize that material as a new filler in lightweight concrete segment.
The doctoral thesis also describes current methods of recycling polyurethane foam, focused on mechanical recycling (with the plastic breaker and knife mill), where the final max. grain size is < 4 mm. This product (polyurethane gravel) is utilized as a filler in concrete mixtures.
There were 15 proposed experimental batches in total, that were tested theirs mechanical and physical properties. After that we determined density of fresh concrete, the consistency of concrete, cubic and prismatic strength and frost resistance.
