Abstract

This diploma thesis explores the possibility of identifying the nature of the overcurrent (AC, DC, impulse) causing a fuse failure based on X-ray analysis. Experimentally, fuse links were subjected to various types of overcurrents and subsequently X-rayed using medical equipment. The thesis analyzes the obtained X-ray images and compares them with the time waveforms of voltages and currents with the aim of finding specific features indicating the type of overcurrent. The output of the thesis is an analysis of the potential of this method for forensic investigation of electrical equipment fires. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical part, which presents the conducted experiments and their evaluation. It is expected that the results of the thesis will contribute to a better understanding of fuse damage and offer a potential tool for forensic analysis.
