Abstract
The thesis is dedicated to find low-cost and highly effective sorbent of naphthalene and phenol from water solutions. In experimental part of the thesis was prepared composite with layered silicate-vermiculite as matrix. The advantages of using layered silicates are that they are cheap, and it is easy to modify them. The vermiculite was modified by two different types of organic cations HDTMA and HDP. An HDTMA modified vermiculite was modified by magnetic oxides of iron Fe2+ prepared by microwave assisted synthesis the composite created is HDTMA-Ver-Fe.
Prepared materials were analysed by XRD and chemical analysis. The mathematical model of the organically modified vermiculite was created by molecular modelling, to help determine structure of the prepared material. The mathematical model visualizes the interlayer space. Analysis of the magnetically modified vermiculite shows that chosen method of preparation does not synthetises enough magnetic iron oxides to make easier separation from prepared water solutions.
It was aimed to determine sorption properties of the prepared composites. Sorption properties were studied by static sorption method. Test of sorption properties was applied on chosen common organic pollutants phenol and naphthalene. It was determined that sorption capacity hexadecyltrimethylammonium modified vermiculite is very low on phenol less than 5%. It was found out that HDTMA and HDP modified vermiculite shows a good sorption property of naphthalene up to 90 % Magnetically modified vermiculite (HDTMA-Ver-Fe) shows that the sorption properties are little lower than HDTMA-ver (up to 80 %).
