Abstract
This doctoral thesis deals with the issue of the course of locating large enterprises and banks in the Czech Republic. Even though the issue of locating economic entities represents one of the aspects that contribute to regional disparities, this issue has not been discussed much in the Czech scientific literature from the theoretical point of view. Choosing the location of headquarters is one of the fundamental strategic decisions that influence the economic success of entrepreneurship. On the other hand, cities and regions seek to have major enterprises and their headquarters located on their territory since it positively affects the area and its economy.
The aim of the thesis is to analyse and evaluate the course of locating large enterprises and banks in the Czech Republic on a regional level. The period from 1995 to 2015 was chosen for the analysis. The course of locating will be observed both from the quantitative and the qualitative point of view. In order to achieve the intended aim, statistical methods, i.e., correlation analysis, factor analysis and cluster analysis, were used besides the standard methods.
The thesis comprises two parts. The theoretical-methodical part covers the theoretical basis of the spatial and territorial organisation of enterprises and banks and its development. The functional point of view includes the inclusion of businesses in the economy, their ties to the environment and the way they influence the region. The spatial point of view presents the approaches to location conceptions and the specification of the territorial division of the Czech Republic. The evaluation of the course of locating large enterprises, presented in the empirical part of the thesis, is based on the number of enterprises in the respective regions and their turnover. The course of banks locating is reflected in the number of banks and core capital ratio in the banking sector on a city level. The quantitative analysis is supplemented with the qualitative point of view by analysing localization factors of enterprises and banks, comparing them on the level of their branches and headquarters and creating groups of factors that influence their decision-making processes.
