Abstract
The main goal of this work was to focus on the results of tests of natural stones in the Czech Republic from the available database of decorative stones and to find out from the search data whether there would be a potential possible replacement for Boulonnais Marble, which is used as a reference sample for the wide wheel abrasion test. Another task of this work was a detailed petrographic analysis of Boulonnais Marble, which serves to facilitate the search for a replacement in long-term imported and available limestones.
The agreement of the value for Boulonnais Marble with the search values was found to be problematic due to the different grain sizes and compositions of the individual layers, a constant value of abrasion cannot be guaranteed for different types of rocks. The rock, called Boulonnais Marble, was identified and named as a sedimentary bioclastic limestone according to several recognized classifications based on a microscopic study of excavations.
In conclusion, it was recommended to select periodically imported limestones from abroad and to perform a sufficient number of wide-wheel abrasion tests on various structural varieties to provide sufficient values for statistical evaluation of the suitability of using stone as an alternative material for reference Boulonnais Marble.
