Abstract

The diploma thesis deals with the study of the nature of steel flow in the tundish using the method of physical modelling. Experimental device was a physical model of an asymmetric five-strand tundish, on which a number of experiments were performed. The main goal was to study the influence of the shape of the impact pad and the position of the ladle shroud towards the impact pad. The thesis is divided into three main parts. The first part describes the technology of continuous casting of steel, its principle, construction and division. In the first part there is also described tundish with its functions and possibilities of influencing the steel flow in the tundish. The second part deals with the study of knowledge from world literature in the field of optimization of steel flow in the tundish by methods of numerical and physical modelling. This section evaluates tundishes of different configurations with many different flow modifiers. The results of the steel flow were presented using by retention times. The third part of this thesis is devoted to the experimental part. The experimental part describes the physical similarity of the model and the prototype. The experiments performed are described here and their results are presented, which can ensure the optimization of the operating equipment, especially in the field of improving the character of the steel flow in the tundish.
