Abstract
The doctoral dissertation is focused on an overview of the development of brown coal mining considered to be the primary source of energy in the Czech Republic. The introductory chapters describe the current status of mining as well as the consumption of primary energy sources in the world. Further, the paper addresses an issue of the energy sector in the Czech Republic. Particular attention is paid to the development of the State Energy Policy, issues related to the approval of its updated version, and an impact of the directive action on the possible development of brown coal mining.
The development of the energy sector in the Czech Republic is described in the following chapters of the dissertation. The paper proceeds with proposals of how to supply the brown coal volume serving as a major domestic primary energy source within the energy mix. The importance of the domestic raw materials base is evaluated from the perspective of a self-sufficiency ensuring smooth supply of electric power and heat energy in the Czech Republic.
The closing chapters bring a possibility of prediction about imported energy inputs functioning as substitutes for coal.
The dissertation is accompanied with graphs documenting significant correlations between the observed parameters.
