Abstract

This thesis is focused on a role of gold as a monetary metal, commodity and investment in national economy. The first part deals with historically the most important period of gold as a base of an international monetary system. Another part of the thesis describes sources of supply and demand on the gold market. In the final chapter long-term gold price development is analyzed and by the correlation analysis is determined the strength of relationship between the gold price and factors, which can influence it.
