Abstract
This thesis deals with optimization of gating system for thin-walled casting of a middle segment of a boiler U28 made of grey cast iron produced by gravity casting process.The current state was numerically simulated in MAGMA 5.2 with “Magma Iron” module. Based on the simulation few possible causes of defects in casting were found. A new gating system was designed including some changes to the moulding mixture. This newly optimized procedure of casting was applied in production.
