Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the development of the Czech Republic’s membership in the European Union and, based on the analysis of selected indicators and political positions, to outline possible scenarios for its future direction within the EU. To address this issue, methods of descriptive analysis, comparison, and synthesis were applied. The thesis focuses both on the institutional development of the EU and the accession process of the Czech Republic, its adaptation to membership, and its approach to selected areas of European integration. The analysis shows that the Czech Republic adopts a rather cautious and pragmatic approach, particularly in relation to the potential abolition of the veto right or the adoption of the euro. Public opinion remains divided on EU-related matters and reflects a certain degree of distrust towards deeper integration. Based on the data examined, it can be concluded that the Czech Republic will continue to favour cooperation that does not compromise national sovereignty and will remain part of the integration process primarily in its more flexible form.
