Posouzení investování do Bitcoinu ve vybraných časových horizontech

Abstract

This bachelor's thesis compares Bitcoin investing with traditional investment vehicles, namely the S&P 500 TR index and gold, over three time horizons, namely 2015-2018, 2018-2021, 2021-2024. The aim of the thesis is to assess Bitcoin investing in comparison with traditional equity investing through the S&P 500 TR index and gold. The theoretical part describes the principles of Bitcoin, its origin and its evolution in the periods of its development. Investing, the investment triangle, and financial instruments are described. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the analysis of historical data, comparison of returns, risk and return and calculation of the final value of each investment. The results show that Bitcoin has in some periods achieved significantly higher returns than gold or the S&P 500 TR, at the cost of higher volatility and risk. The S&P 500 TR index has proven to be a stable and long-term return instrument, while gold has acted as a store of value, particularly during periods of market uncertainty. The paper concludes with recommendations for investors with respect to their investment profile, risk tolerance and investment horizon.
